“The Gilbert Family Foundation will invest up to $5 million to bring affordable housing to Corktown.

The foundation and the North Corktown Neighborhood Association announced Tomorrow’s Housing Innovation Showcase on Thursday. It's a new effort to show the potential for factory-built housing to provide high-quality and attainable homes for Detroiters.”

“That’s where a new program, “Tomorrow’s Housing Innovation Showcase” might come in. In partnership between the Gilbert Family Foundation and the North Corktown Neighborhood Association; they’re trying something different.”

“Eventually, we want all of the neighborhoods to connect," Talley said. "I’m hoping that our neighborhood can serve as an example of what redevelopment can be when you involve the residents, and, you redevelop the neighborhood around the residents that are here.”

“But its unmoored other half withered away. Over time, North Corktown was plagued by crime and blight, deserted by most of its residents, left to revert back to nature.”
